What does the $95 cover?
The visit and the full diagnosis — readings taken, fault identified, price quoted. Approve the repair and the $95 comes off the bill in full. Decline it and that is all you have paid.
The oven igniter glows but the burner never lights.
That is the classic aged igniter. It still glows, but it no longer draws enough current to open the safety valve, so the oven never heats. The glow is misleading — the test is current draw in amps, and it takes a couple of minutes to measure.
Is a 48-inch range worth repairing?
Almost always. The parts that fail on these are igniters, spark modules, valves, thermostats, control boards, hinges and seals, and all of them are contained repairs against the cost of the appliance. What ends a repair is a cracked casting or fire damage, not age.
My hood runs but the kitchen still fills with smoke.
Nine times in ten the blower is fine and the airflow is being lost somewhere else: saturated baffles, a damper flap gummed shut, a crushed section of flexible duct, or a roof cap that has not opened properly in years. Wash the baffles first — it is free and it is occasionally the whole answer.
Do you work on induction as well as gas?
Yes. Induction cooktops fail differently — inverter boards, cooling fans and coil sensing rather than valves and orifices — and the cabinet ventilation underneath is usually implicated. It is the same trade, with a multimeter in place of a manometer.
How far outside Winchester do you go?
The whole town is one round, and the streets that spill over the Arlington, Medford and Woburn lines are normally straightforward too. If you are unsure, call and ask rather than guessing from a list.

The induction top faulted whenever two zones ran together. The cooling fan under the glass was clogged with renovation dust. Cleaned out, new fan, and no codes since.

Wide rear kitchen with the cooking suite on an exterior wall. The igniter glowed steadily but the cavity never came up to temperature. It was not pulling enough current to open the valve. Replaced and metered.

The hinge had dropped far enough that the seal no longer sat against the frame, and the top of the door got too hot to touch. New hinges, springs and a gasket, and while he was there he levelled the unit in its cabinet, which nobody had done at install.
